Have a beautiful. & powerful birth, put a doula on your team!

“Evidence collectively suggests that doulas can decrease risk of adverse maternal health outcomes.” -ldi.upenn.edu

Welcome!

If you are new to my page, I am happy you are here. Exploring the option of having a doula at your birth or in your home during your early days with your baby, should be fun. Of course, it’s a brand new experience for you to think about becoming parents, but think about how many other new experiences you have embraced successfully. Having a baby is similar to those important milestone leaps you have already undertaken, it takes education, patience, and faith. When you find the doula who is meant for you, you’ll have found someone who feels like trusted friend – your person to lean-into as you welcome your baby.

Doulas are for Everyone

Support & Education

Birth & postpartum doulas train to provide emotional support and education to clients who are growing a family, either through birth, adoption, surrogacy, or in any other chosen method. Consider having a doula as an added measure of comfort. The role calls for us to offer suggestions, resources, and empathy to our clients and their most important people in the birth space.

Support from a doula centers on your vision of meaningful birth, with language that is inclusive, evidenced-based, and exclusive of her/his own personal beliefs. This is why it’s important to take advantage of the brief introductory meetings most of us offer.

As You Start Your Journey...

What's Most Important to You?

When clients find me, they have decided that they want a doula who is trained, certified, and insured. You may or may not want that, depending on your budget, if you have fertility benefits, and availability in your area. These factors are just as important as experience, cultural background, and references. In addition to being a birth, postpartum, and bereavement doula, I am a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) through the nationally recognized Healthy Children Project. if you plan to breastfeed, and do not want to travel to see and IBCLC or back to your hospital’s breastfeeding clinic with your new baby, this certification may be super appealing. I am qualified to serve as your doula and offer you breastfeeding support in the early days, always remaining in my scope.

When I chose my own doula, I wanted someone who was older than I was, though it did not matter to me if they were certified or highly experienced. I chose my birth doula based solely on that characteristic, and she supported my birth as part of her certification through the Childbirth Center. Having a doula with you improves the likelihood that you will have a birth experience with fewer interventions, shorter labor, and statistically less likely to end in cesarean. If you cannot find a doula who looks the part, or is in your budget, tweak your plan and bring a doula.

Dear Judy,
Sending a note of thanks...for the amazing support, guidance, and friendship over the past couple of months. We couldn't be more grateful that we found you and the timing aligned for us to work together.
You made H----'s birth an even more special experience - one where both Adam and I felt empowered, and one that was a true team effort....
Look forward to keeping in touch as H--- grows up...and potentially for #2!!?... Love, S., A., & H.
