Postpartum is the time immediately following the birth of your baby

Postpartum Care for the Family

Priority One- How Are You Feeling & Healing

If you or someone close to you just had a baby, and isn’t feeling like themselves or seems to be experiencing a difficult recovery, having a postpartum doula come into your home to handle household tasks, teach newborn care skills, or breastfeeding support can be helpful. If it seems like a normal recovery is becoming difficult, we can connect you with resources.

Should you find yourself in need of some additional professional support for mental health, please contact your provider first. If that does not help, consider a therapist who specializes in mental health for postpartum women. I recommend that families reach out to Postpartum Support International Is Here to Help!  for support groups, therapist recommendations and helpful guidance.  These are resources I will provide to any woman who needs, there is no addition expectation from me.

If you or someone you love is experiencing extreme depression, self-loathing, or other serious conditions like hallucinations, inability to sleep, or expression of self-harm, please call 911 or intervene immediately. Many of these conditions are treatable and temporary.

Doulas Support the Family

Healthy Postpartum Includes Prenatal Preparation

In the US, we love baby showers, sprinkles, and a well-researched labor. We are not used to spending time on thinking about what happens when this little baby comes home!  A postpartum plan is time well-spent. Creating comfortable space at home, sharing your expectations for family visits, and accepting the offers from friends or neighbors in way that stretches out your support. Thinking now can make the first 6 weeks a less stressful time. Before reading on, check out 10 Most Popular Baby Registry Items that cumulatively cost more than doula support!

Finding A Postpartum Doula

Know Your Priorities

As a certified and insured doula, I am a person who is bound by the scope of service outlined by DONA International. This means you can feel comfortable leaving your baby in my care to shower, eat, sleep or visit your provider.

I am also a Certified Lactation Consultant, which means I can support your breastfeeding goals and teach you the skills you need to reach those goals; or if you need additional, specialized care from a medical provide, I will suggest it.

Normal newborn and maternal recovery happens at different times for each family. I am familiar with typical healing, and will advise you if I see any need for additional resources.

My postpartum calendar is varied – first-time parents tend to call after baby comes home, while 2nd or 3rd time parents line-up care well in advance of the last trimester.

Day and Night Support

Day Support – Offered in blocks with a mnimum requirement of 4-hours, no minimum number of days. The longest day is 8 hours, ending by 5pm. Dueing the day, household tasks, baby’s laundry, food prep and newborn care are typically the focus. Parents are encouarged to sleep for at least part of that time, when I watch over the sweet baby, fold laundry or comfort. $65.00 an hour

Night Support- Offered in 10 or 12-hour blocks, requiring at least 3 nights to used within 10 days. I take 3-nights per week, alternating them with parents or other doulas. It is important to learn to parent at night. When circmstances are more challenging, I have worked alternte nights (which can be 4 in one week) as long there is another doula on back-up. No household tasks get done other than bottle washing and restocking of nursery stations. $70.00 an hour

We Support and Bring Our Own Talents

You Deserve a Postpartum Doula

It is very important that I serve my clients with warmth, tenderness and the most recent evidenced-based information. I maintain connections to doula groups, a mentor, and several professional gathering groups to help me stay on-top of the subjects that mean so much to new parents.

I am a dog-lover and nurturer through homemade foods and baked goods. I will change sheets occasionally if there is no body fluid, but I do not throw adult undies into the washer, though I will fold clean ones and put them in the appropriate rooms!

Dog walking, feeding, sibling play, meal planning, grocery-grabbing, and a soft shoulder are all in my wheel-house. As a CLC, I am also able to assess latch, teach pumping, and safe formula preparation.

Ask me for personal references or Check out my Google Reviews! I do not include photos of my clients or their babies here on my website, but I would love to be asked for references.

Fertility Benefits Cover Postpartum Doula Care

Consult HR to Know Your Benefits

Larger companies have begun to offer Fertility Benefits to their employees, which are meant to compliment health insurance and provide support in an area that has typically been out-of-pocket for many. Benefit companies like Carrot  (CarrotFertility on Instagram) provide advice, reimbursement, and resources for fertility-related care.

Most of my 2023 clients found me through their referral because I have a proven track record of quality care, careful and complete paperwork processing, and an understanding of what my clients need to do to maximize their benefits.

There are other Fertility Benefits, or you may have HSA or FSA funds available to you for doula care. The process is well worth the opportunity to have a postpartum doula. I am happy to explain this and work with you to make the most of your benefits.  If you find out your company does not offer this, perhaps you can be the one to make it happen.

There is a misconception that a doula replaces or steps into rolls typically reserved for partners or beloved family. In practice, a trained doula who stays within her scope makes suggestions and supports needs in way that makes everyone’s effort shine!

Ask how this can happen for you.
